The Stone Cutter

A large number of stone cutters were working. A temple was being built. A curious child asked one of them, “What are you doing?” The worker replied sourly, “I am cutting stones, to earn a livelihood. Can’t you see?”

The child was a little intimidated by the gruff reply but he was intrigued by the quantum of work that was going on. He ventured to ask another stone cutter, “What are you doing?” The stone cutter gave a curt and crisp reply, “I am cutting stones, so that I can be the best stone cutter in the world.”
Well! That was ambitious!

The boy strolled along the rocky path. An old stone cutter looked up at him and smiled. The boy asked the same question, “What are you doing, Baba?” The old man with love in his eyes said, “I am cutting these stones to perfection for we are building a temple for our Lord!” The love in his heart was overflowing through his eyes and his hands too!

Everything that is done for the love of God makes our lives sweet. Bhagwan Baba tells us that Devotion is not a uniform to be worn on special occasions. Devotion is a way of life!

He who works with his hands is a labourer. He who works with his hands and his head is a craftsman. He who works with his hands and his head and his heart is an artist.
